Lead generation campaigns are great because of their versatility, and ability to serve multiple purposes. Unlike conversion campaigns where customers will buy while the ad is up, lead generation can convert at any time. The hope is that leads can convert today, tomorrow, or in a year.
The question we get often is why should I run these ads if I have to wait that long for a sale? The cost per lead is significantly lower than the cost per purchase of a conversion ad. If you can consistently get a strong conversion rate from emails and consistently get email sales at a low cost, lead-gen ads are highly profitable.
Especially because you can retarget lead gen customers/clients with specific ads to help them along their buyer journey and this is why we believe (and implement with our clients) that you should always make lead generation a part of your ad strategy.
We typically run a small handful of lead-generation campaigns that clients look for. Product launch/release, 1st time buyer discount, joining a Facebook group, live events or workshops, and quizzes. Each one of these has its merits and drawbacks. Like anything online it will not only be up to the business, but also be up to their audience and what helps them take action.
Live Events
For this client below, we ran a campaign bringing in customers directly into emails to give them access to a future live event. The live event was a stream to highlight how to use and assemble one of their products.
As the live event was also a product launch, this campaign dipped into a couple of lead categories. Conversions were mostly immediate because to follow along our client made it to where their product was the next logical step to buy to engage with their event. With the immediate conversions, the ROAS was much higher than an average lead generation might immediately see.

Facebook Group Signup
Getting customers into a Facebook group is a bit easier than other lead campaigns as there is no obvious sale you’re trying to make. The idea is that being in the community will inspire leads to purchase, or make it easier to sell to interested/engaged parties. For this campaign you see below, the business had an incredibly loyal local following.
Creating an audience was not difficult, but getting Facebook to deliver the ads to new people was. With such a loyal and engaged customer base, they interacted with ads at a higher level making accounts that were local and previous buyers more likely to be shown the ad than a new potential customer. To mitigate this we chose to exclude the state from our audience and used the emails of previous buyers in that exclusion. Getting entirely new customers was ideal in this case.
You ca also see that we were very specific with our times of having the lead gen ad running – but you can also see that our client had almost made back what they spent on these leads in less than our normal 90 day conversion period for leads.

Quizzes
Getting conversions can always be tricky with leads, some people check their email, some use a random email when signing up, but that’s why our clients work with us! On Average we’re seeing a 5% – 40% conversion rate within 90 days from all of our lead gen options.
Our client here has a fairly unique jewelry business and a higher AOV than some average jewelry you might find online. With their unique business, it’s easier to target the niche focus, but you will have to spend more on leads. So what we did was decided to solve a problem! This is when you should be using Quizzes for your lead gen!
When we want to engage more people and grow the audience’s awareness of our unique products/services, we use a quiz. Using a quiz for a focused and intriguing product/service allows people to interact with the quiz, spend time thinking over answers, and legitimately get curious about their results.
We have found (as you see below) the best time to use quiz lead generation is when we’re about to launch a new product or sale!
